Trees and forests play a key role in producing the planet’s fresh water supply and oxygen.  Trees add moisture to air and attracting clouds that brings rain water, and by guiding rainwater into rivers and lakes. Forests alone filter 50% of the nation’s water supply, with many large U.S. cities relying on healthy forests to provide a source of clean drinking water.  Trees also release oxygen when they use energy from sunlight to make glucose from carbon dioxide and water.

American uses about 23.6 rolls of toilet paper a year. The amount of water used by a typical bidet is about 0.125 gallon, with the average toilet using about 4 gallons/flush. Lloyd Alter of the website treehugger.com reports that making a single roll of toilet paper requires 37 gallons of water, 1.3 kilowatt/hours (KWh) of electricity and 1.5 pounds of wood.  The huge industry of producing toilet paper could be eliminated through the use of bidets.
